BALVENIE 2002 Peat Week 14 Year Old

BALVENIE 2002 Peat Week 14 Year Old

Balvenie, situated in Dufftown and built by the Grant family alongside its sister distillery Glenfiddich, holds a central position in Grant’s range of blends. Despite their close proximity and shared water source, Balvenie and Glenfiddich produce distinct styles of spirit. Balvenie’s new make spirit is characterised by a sweeter, honeyed profile with a hint of light peat.

The journey towards establishing Balvenie as a single malt distillery began in 1990 when the responsibility for blending stock production was shared with Kininvie distillery. This development provided Balvenie the opportunity to make significant strides. Through the use of innovative maturation processes, the distillery quickly gained recognition. Notably, Balvenie was at the forefront of cask “finishing,” introducing its pioneering DoubleWood expression in 1993. Furthermore, Balvenie stands out as one of the few remaining distilleries that still perform on-site malting. However, these malting only fulfil a small percentage of its current requirements.

Every year since 2002, Balvenie has dedicated a week per year to the production of a heavily peated whisky, this whisky is the product of that first year. It was aged 14 years exclusively in American oak.
