ARDBEG Auriverdes

ARDBEG Auriverdes

Located on the southern coast of Islay, an island in Scotland. Ardbeg whiskies are known for their intensely smoky and peaty character, which stems from the traditional production methods employed at the distillery. The malt used in Ardbeg’s whiskies is malted with peat, which imparts a distinctive smoky flavour during the drying process. The whiskies often feature complex layers of maritime, briny, and medicinal notes, with hints of citrus and chocolate.

The Auriverdes was the 2014 Ardbeg Day release, an annual open day which coincides with the Feis Ile festival on Islay, on this occasion the 31st of May. The Auriverdes was aged in special casks that had their heads removed and replaced by ones treated with a secret toasting regime. These new heads are designed to create a particular flavour profile which emphasises the notes of coffee and mocha. This spirit was then blended with ‘classic’ Ardbeg from 1st and 2nd fill Bourbon barrels.

Auriverdes is a Portuguese term created by the combination of auri, meaning “gold” and verde, meaning “green. The whisky has been named for the signature colours on the Ardbeg bottle which happen to be the same as the ones on the Brazilian Flag which kicked off in 2014.
